The Restoration
Fund for the Little Chapel.
An Orrell
Community Initiatives Project.
Built 90 years ago, the
Little Chapel has stood firm during two World Wars.
It has been empty now
for over 15 years and is in a derelict and vandalised state, and
consequently it faces the danger of being demolished.
Two mass graves in the
Cemetery contain the remains of hundreds of victims of the Blitz, and
supporters of the Chapel believe that it would be a fitting gesture if the
building was restored and dedicated to the courage of those people of
Bootle who were killed during the raids of the Second World War.
The suggestion has been
made that a small section of the Chapel be made into a Remembrance Room
for visitors to the Cemetery where they may reflect and pay their
respects.
A Restoration Fund has
now been opened for all friends, whether at home or abroad, to donate to
the refurbishment of The Little Chapel.
All donations, large or
small, would be gratefully received at the
Orrell Community Initiatives Hub Nub Community Centre.
O.C.I. are in the process
of obtaining a 25 year lease from Sefton Leisure Services.
