St. George's Church

' The Iron Church '

St. Georges Church Tower Clock.

The Church clock was made by Smiths of Clerkenwell for St. Anne's, Richmond, Liverpool.

Upon its demolition in the early 1970's, Phillip Irvine was able to persuade the vicar to sell the clock to St. George's, who's own clock, a 'chairframe', made by Ainsworth of Warrington in 1814 had been vandalised (and brass work stolen) when thieves had stolen the lead floor of the clock chamber in the late 1960's (this was after George Eccles of Liverpool had restored the clock in 1937).

The Smiths of Clerkenwell Clock was duly installed in St. George's tower in 1973.
